Saudi nuclear and renewables agency Kacare has announced that it is preparing to explore for uranium and thorium ores in the kingdom in partnership with the Saudi Geological Survey and state mining firm Ma’aden.
The announcement confirms Riyadh’s determination to develop the entire nuclear fuel cycle from mining to power generation, mirroring Iran’s program and raising concerns in the US of stronger Saudi links with Russia and China if they become technology providers (MEES, 19 April 2019).
