Algeria has a new pipeline, but the fresh volumes of gas it was built for won’t come online for at least another two years. State-oil firm Sonatrach says its GR-7 pipeline was connected to the grid on 2 April with an initial capacity of 4bcm/y.
The 344km GR-7 is part of the second phase of Sonatrach’s South West Gas Project (SWGP), which will see output from four groups of fields in southwest Algeria piped to the Hassi R’Mel gas hub (see map). The pipeline follows the course of the existing 9bcm/y GR-5 pipeline which handles output from SWGP Phase-1. (CONTINUED - 457 WORDS)
