Drilling is now underway for the upstream portion of Qatar’s hotly anticipated LNG expansion. Qatar Petroleum announced this week that the first well was spudded on 29 March by the ‘Lovanda’ jack-up rig operated by the Gulfdrill JV between its subsidiary Qatar Drilling International and Seadrill (MEES, 23 August 2019).
This is the first of 80 planned wells for the first phase LNG expansion from 77mn t/y to 110mn t/y, which is now known as the North Field East (NFE) project. First LNG from the expansion has now been pushed back to 2025 (MEES, 10 April). The second phase to 126mn t/y is now known as the North Field South (NFS) project. (CONTINUED - 198 WORDS)
