US contractor McDermott has been awarded Feed for the Phase-1 of Qatar’s LNG expansion. North Field South (NFS) development work “includes the replication of five offshore wellhead platforms,” the firm says. NFS is designed to lift liquefaction capacity from 110mn t/y to 126mn t/y by 2027. Phase-1 expansion (North Field East: NFE) will boost capacity from its current 77mn t/y to 110mn t/y in 2025 (MEES, 10 April 2020).
McDermott was awarded Feed for NFE in May 2019 (MEES, 31 May 2019). It is also in the running for NFE’s key four-train EPC award in a consortium alongside Saipem and Taiwan’s CTCI. Award has been delayed amid the coronavirus pandemic, but the latest Feed contract underlines Qatar’s continued commitment to the expansion. (CONTINUED - 123 WORDS)
