Thai-state firm PTTEP is farming into Sharjah’s Area C exploration acreage, which is currently operated by Italy’s Eni (75%) alongside the Sharjah National Oil Company (SNOC). In a 3 December release, PTTEP said it intends to acquire 25% from Eni, leaving the Italian firm with 50%. Eni was awarded three blocks in Sharjah in 2019 (MEES, 18 January 2019) and began producing from Area B’s Mahani field in January (MEES, 8 January).
In October, Italy’s Saipem was awarded a contract to drill three back-to-back development and exploration wells in Sharjah in 2022. SNOC CEO Hatem al-Mosa tells MEES that “at Mahani we plan to further delineate the reservoir and will carry out further drilling there next year, and are also carrying out some exploration drilling in blocks A and B.” (CONTINUED - 238 WORDS)
