The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) is to be split off from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) in the latest reshuffling of the kingdom’s power sector. SEC says that the move is intended to boost transparency and increase operational efficiencies.
This latest move is part of a broader shakeup of SEC, which picked up pace in November 2020 when Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman said that “the expected outcomes of this sweeping reform program include more efficient power generation, reduction in the use of liquid fuels for electricity generation and increased environmental protection” (MEES, 20 November 2020).
