Baghdad’s oil and electricity ministries have been working on a “Roadmap for Sustainable Transition” that aims to add 12GW of renewables by 2030, and 2.3bn cfd of additional gas processing capacity by 2026. The ministry of oil has an even more ambitious gas plan to add 2.49bn cfd of gas processing capacity by 2027 and to achieve zero flaring by 2030 as per a 2017 pledge made to the World Bank.
Details of these plans were outlined by the oil minister’s advisor for energy affairs Abdulbaqi al-Salait and the deputy minister for downstream affairs Hamid Younes during the 6th oil and gas conference held by the ministry’s petroleum research and development center on 29 November.
