Kuwait’s state overseas upstream firm Kufpec this week announced “its largest-ever hydrocarbons discovery.” The discovery in question is around 9km offshore Malaysia in the SK-410B Block which is operated by Thai state firm PTTEP (42.5%) alongside Kufpec (42.5%) and Malayia’s Petronas (15%). The Lang Lebah-2 appraisal well was completed at a total depth of 4,320m, with over 600m of proven net gas pay.
Kufpec did not produce details of reserves estimate, but says “the well was tested and flowed at 50mn cfd with a significant amount of gas in place, indicating a substantially larger reservoir than the initial estimate.” After the initial Lang Lebah-1 well was drilled in 2019, consultancy Wood Mackenzie estimated that the discovery could hold as much as 2tcf of gas.
