The Nawah joint venture of UAE state nuclear developer Enec and Korean contractor Kepco announced on 23 March that “Our teams have successfully ensured all of the fuel assemblies are safely loaded into Unit 2 of the Barakah plant. Testing will now begin as part of our process for reactor start-up.”
The first 1.4GW unit at Barakah reached full capacity during tests in December, after fuel loading in February 2020 (MEES, 21 February 2020). Assuming a similar timeline, full capacity could be reached at unit 2 in early 2022, with commercial operations beginning shortly after.
