Bahrain’s Oil Minister Sheikh Muhammad Al Khalifa told parliament earlier this month that drilling of the first production wells at its huge Khalij al-Bahrain unconventional field is planned for late 2022. In comments carried by local media, the minister reaffirmed estimates that the field contains approximately 80bn barrels of oil in place.
The huge discovery was first announced in 2018, with state firm Tatweer Petroleum carrying out development. Preliminary contracts with Total and Chevron have been signed as Bahrain looks to bring in foreign expertise (MEES, 29 May 2020). (CONTINUED - 98 WORDS)
