Morocco’s gas output hit a record in Q4 2020. But don’t get the champagne out quite yet: the record was for a princely 12mn cfd. That’s million not billion, around 2,000 b/d on an ‘oil equivalent’ basis.
With large IOCs having all but given up on the hope of making major offshore finds on Morocco’s Atlantic margin – Eni with its Tarfaya Offshore Shallow block, held together with QP, is the only one still active (MEES, 5 March) – it is highly unlikely that Morocco will ever be a major gas player.
