The long-awaited start-up of Kuwait’s permanent 22mn t/y Al Zour LNG import terminal has finally arrived. The first 97,000 ton (213,000m³) test cargo was delivered from Qatar aboard the Al Kharsaah on 12 July, and will provide much-needed relief for the emirate’s power sector. Korea’s Kogas is conducting tests, which it says will last for 14 days before the official opening.
Electricity demand in Kuwait has surged to yet another all-time high in the past week, and with summer far from over it could rise further in the coming weeks. Data from the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) shows that peak load on the country’s electricity system hit 15.35GW on 12 July, surpassing the 15.07GW registered in June.
