Egypt’s hopes that work would be completed before the end of the decade at the 4.8GW nuclear plant at Dabaa 170km west of Alexandria, have now all but been dashed as it acknowledges the project, headed by Russia’s Rosatom, will not be complete by 2030.
Speaking to local media earlier this month, Egypt Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority spokesman Karim al-Adham confirmed that the plant will not be completed before 2030. Mr Adham says the delays are related to the coronavirus pandemic but the start-up date of 2026 given when the project was announced in 2015 seemed optimistic (MEES, 15 December 2017).
