Abu Dhabi’s Adnoc has sold its first cargo of blue ammonia to Japan’s Itochu as it seeks to capitalize on growing international interest in the low-carbon fuel. In a 3 August statement, Adnoc announced that the sale was made in partnership with Fertiglobe – a joint venture between Egypt’s OCI (58%) and Adnoc (42%) – and “builds upon recently announced joint efforts to enhance industrial cooperation between the UAE and Japan and support the development of new UAE-Japan blue ammonia supply chains.”
The trial shipment will be produced from Fertiglobe’s Fertil plant in Abu Dhabi’s Ruwais industrial hub. The Fertil plant which can produce 1.2mn t/y of ammonia is to be fitted with CO₂ liquefaction units, with CO₂ captured and then reinjected into underground reservoirs by Adnoc. (CONTINUED - 726 WORDS)
