Less than a year after a top-level committee comprised of officials within the Prime Minister’s office made recommendations threatening the future of the company, Israel’s largest refiner, the 197,000 b/d Bazan plant at Haifa on the country’s northern Mediterranean coast, outlined plans to transition to become a “cleaner energy company.”
The committee last September recommended that the Bazan refinery and adjacent Petrochemical plants be shut-down within the next ten years to make way for an eco-friendly commercial and residential hub (MEES 4 September 2020). While the plan raised objections from the Finance and Energy ministries, Bazan appears to be trying to reach a compromise. (CONTINUED - 637 WORDS)
