Egypt and Africa’s first green hydrogen project announced the beginning of Phase-1 commissioning at Cop 27 on 8 November.
However, it is unclear if “Phase-1,” which consists of “testing the first and largest PEM [polymer electrolyte membrane] electrolyzer in Africa,” will actually involve green hydrogen output given that work has yet to begin on the 260MW of wind and solar capacity that is slated to power the newly-named ‘Egypt Green’ project at Ain Sukhna on the Red Sea.
