Oman’s Ministry of Finance this week released provisional figures for its 2022 budget performance, and calculates that it will have achieved a $2.98bn surplus for the year. That brings an end to a run of 13 consecutive budget deficits stretching back to 2009, over which time Oman has run up a cumulative $69.28bn deficit.
The provisional figures were provided as part of the ministry’s pre-budget statement for 2023. The envisaged 2023 figures in theory pour cold water over this year’s strong performance, forecasting a return to the red with a $3.38bn deficit (see table).
