Morocco sees natural gas as key to its ambitious renewable energy targets as well as its energy security. But plans to gasify the economy were dealt a hammer blow late last year when Algeria cut off gas supplies through the Gaz-Maghreb-Europe (GME) pipeline which had fueled about 10% of the country’s electricity production (MEES, 22 October 2021).
Amid worsening relations with neighboring Algeria, and with little prospect of a restart to gas flows through GME, Morocco has stepped up efforts to secure alternative supplies. (CONTINUED - 974 WORDS)
