Officials from TotalEnergies met with Iraqi Drilling Company (IDC) earlier this month with the state driller “showcasing its capabilities and equipment” as the French giant “assessed suppliers” for its Ratawi development according to an IDC statement.
TotalEnergies is expected to raise the Ratawi field’s 85,000 b/d capacity to 210,000 b/d as part of its $27bn megadeal (MEES, 10 September 2021). But the company’s efforts are facing delays due to rising political risk (MEES, 18 February). The attraction of IDC as a partner appears to be both the firm’s vast drilling and workover fleet and the political weight in Baghdad it brings for its partners (MEES, 10 December 2021).
