Algeria’s prolific Hassi Messaoud oil field has been the backbone of the country’s oil sector since it came online in 1960, accounting for a large chunk of the country’s production and reserves. As such, operator Sonatrach has expended considerable effort and resources in its bid to maintain output (MEES, 6 March 2020).
There has been notable progress on this front over the past couple of years with several recovery projects gradually coming online. The latest to startup is a 40,000 b/d crude oil gathering and processing facility built by Japan’s JGC to handle output from new fields north of Hassi Messaoud. (CONTINUED - 467 WORDS)
