Italy’s Eni is Egypt’s key gas producer. The firm’s offshore Mediterranean and Nile Delta fields collectively produced a record 3.86bn cfd for 2021, half of Egypt’s annual output record of 6.94bn cfd (MEES, 4 March). But these gains were almost entirely down to the giant 21.5tcf Zohr gas field.
Whilst the Eni concessions – including BP-operated Nile Delta acreage where Eni partners the UK firm – saw output rise 666mn cfd for 2021, almost all of this, some 648mn cfd, was accounted for by Zohr, which produced a record 2.74bn cfd despite serious problems with water infiltration (MEES, 2 July 2021).
