*Thailand imported 2.02mn tons of LNG in Q1 this year, fractionally higher than the previous quarterly record set in Q2 last year and up a chunky 73% on Q1 2021. Higher Thai buying comes in contrast to a collective 11% year-on-year fall in imports by the world’s top four LNG importers, China, Japan, South Korea and India, amid record prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February ((MEES, 29 April)).
*Qatar regained the number one spot of Thailand’s LNG suppliers, after falling behind Australia in Q4 last year. Thailand imported 696,000 tons of LNG from Qatar, a quarter-on-quarter increase of 52%, for a 35% market share.
