Latest official Indian import data indicate that the country imported a record 396,000 b/d from Russia in April, in line with shipping-based figures from data intelligence firm Kpler (MEES, 27 May). The Kpler figures have volumes soaring further to a whopping new record of 934,000 b/d and a projected figure of almost 1.2mn b/d for June.
The latter figure, if achieved, would see Russia soar past Iraq as India’s top supplier. Iraq remained number one for April with 1.28mn b/d, whilst average Iraq volumes of 1.23mn b/d for the first four months of 2022 were up 33% year-on-year. Saudi Arabia was number two for April with 921,000 b/d. The UAE was third with 795,000 b/d, the second highest figure on record after last September’s 819,000 b/d, whilst the 168,000 b/d that India took from Qatar in April was a six-year high.
