Qatar has joined the Middle East’s burgeoning blue ammonia scene, targeting 1Q 2026 startup of a 1.2mn t/y capacity plant at Mesaieed. With Gulf energy producers rushing to secure early-mover advantages in the nascent low-carbon fuel industry, a familiar tendency to one-up their neighbors has also emerged.
Qatar has been swift to label the 1.2mn t/y project “the world’s largest such facility.” Certainly it exceeds the planned 1mn t/y “world-scale” project planned in neighboring Abu Dhabi’s Ruwais industrial city (MEES, 25 March).
