QatarEnergy signed its latest long-term LNG deal with Eni on 23 October, announced only five days after a similar deal with Shell. As part of the most recent agreement, up to 1mn t/y of LNG will be delivered to the floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) “Golar Tundra” offshore of Piombino, Italy. The 27-year deal will start from 2026, meaning the contract will extend to 2053.
The volumes come from Eni’s 3.1% stake in the 32mn t/y North Field East (NFE) expansion project, which is the first element of a two-phase project to lift Qatar’s LNG capacity from 77mn t/y to 126mn t/y by around 2027. The NFE marked Eni’s entry into Qatar’s energy sector (MEES, 24 June 2022), although the Italian firm has increasingly partnered with QatarEnergy in international upstream projects in recent years.
