Cypriot officials will have been buoyed in recent weeks by Chevron CEO Mike Wirth’s statement that the East Mediterranean is a “high priority” for the US major, despite a lack of mention of Cyprus or the 4.5tcf Aphrodite within the firm’s results or presentation material (MEES, 3 February).
And while the expansion of its 23tcf Leviathan field offshore Israel is top of the pile, MEES learns that Chevron has sent an official letter to Shell, its partner at Aphrodite, for permission to use the now heavily under-utilized West Delta Deep Marine (WDDM) processing facilities on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast.
