US independent Occidental (Oxy) is optimistic about the prospects at its Block 65 asset in northern Oman. Oxy was awarded Block 65 in Oman’s 2017 licensing round (MEES, 21 December 2018), with the asset lying in a crescent of acreage being developed by the firm running across the north of the sultanate.
Oxy says that a recently-drilled well in the block tested at 6,000 boe/d during a 24-hour initial production test – the highest such figure for Oxy in Oman in nearly a decade. CEO Vicki Hollub says the “near-field exploration well” is now in production less than a month from completion, underlining the benefits Oxy is able to reap from its consolidation of acreage in the region.
