Cairo is pushing Chevron to fast-track development of the Egyptian Mediterranean’s only significant 2023 gas discovery, Nargis, announced by the US major (45%op) as a 3.5tcf find last January (MEES, 20 January 2023).
However, with appraisal drilling and the filing of a development plan both expected later this year, first gas is unlikely before 2026, sources at Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum tell MEES. “We are currently working on a potential development plan for this asset,” Chevron confirms.
