US majors Chevron and ExxonMobil will both spud wells on their Egyptian West Mediterranean offshore blocks before the turn of the year, as the race heats up for who will be first to drill the largely underexplored region.

MEES learns that Chevron has contracted the Stena Forth drillship to spud the Khendjer-1 well on its North El Dabaa block, with drilling likely to begin in late November. Stena Forth drilled three wells for Shell on its Egypt Mediterranean acreage earlier this year, though Mina West, estimated at 0.5tcf, was the only discovery (MEES, 14 June). (CONTINUED - 797 WORDS)
