Adnoc plans to construct a 1.5mn b/d crude oil pipeline connecting its two primary onshore terminals Jebel Dhanna and Fujairah, via its primary processing facilities at Habshan. The pipeline will essentially double the capacity to transfer crude from Habshan to Fujairah, which currently stands at 1.8mn b/d through the Adcop pipeline. Most importantly, it will be able to carry crude directly to Fujairah from the Jebel Dhanna terminal at Ruwais in the west of Abu Dhabi.
Currently, the Adcop pipeline is used to transfer Murban crude oil (40°API, 0.7%S) from onshore fields to Fujairah for export. Prior to the pipeline’s start-up in 2012, all Murban crude was exported from Jebel Dhanna, inside the Strait of Hormuz. Now, 1.07mn b/d of crude is being exported from Fujairah so far this year against just 320,000 b/d from Jebel Dhanna, with volumes traded under the IFAD Murban contract physically deliverable at the Indian Ocean terminal.
