Abu Dhabi state offtaker Ewec has invited Expression of Interest (EOI) for the development of the 1.5GW Zarraf solar PV plant in the Al Dhafra region. Zarraf will be the emirate’s fifth large-scale solar PV plant once operational, bringing renewable capacity in the emirate to 7.2GW. The launch comes a year after EOIs were invited for the 1.5GW Khazna plant in September 2023, with a Request for Proposals (RFP) issued in April (MEES, 19 April). Khazna is due online in 2027, implying a likely 2028 start date for Zarraf. Meanwhile, the 1.5GW Al Ajban plant is due online in 2026 after a joint venture of France’s EDF Renewables and Korea Western Power was selected to develop it in February (MEES, 23 February).
