Major oil producing countries in the Middle East are pursuing two separate goals in regards to renewable deployment. The first is replacing oil and gas-fired power generation for domestic power demand with renewable or low-emission capacity. The second is decarbonizing their oil and gas sectors to reduce the carbon-intensity of their key export commodities.
Oman is working towards both these ends. To meet growing domestic power demand the sultanate is looking to develop and connect roughly 3.6GW of renewable energy capacity to the national grid by 2028.
