Over the past two decades Qatar has gradually brought the responsibility for shipping its LNG in-house under the management of state-backed shipping firm Nakilat. Since it was established as the shipping arm of QatarEnergy in 2004 the company has sought to develop its expertise to manage the global trade itself.
To do this it used a two-pronged approach to develop its LNG fleet. First it opted for a series of joint ventures with established shipping firms like Maran and Teekay to co-own vessels but leave the operations to them. (CONTINUED - 858 WORDS)
