Egypt is studying further expansions of the Suez Canal in a bid to speed up transit times and prevent potential blockages, Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Osama Rabie announced on 3 March.
The project will see single-lane segments of the waterway doubled to allow two-way traffic, he said. This includes 50km in the northern segment and 30km in the southern part. Work is already underway to extend the canal over a 10km stretch near the southern entrance. (CONTINUED - 181 WORDS)
