UN Special Envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily announced his resignation on 16 April following a UN Security Council speech where he briefed members on his attempts to bring Libyan stakeholders together to resolve contested issues relating to long-delayed elections and the formation of a unified government.
The former Senegalese minister and UN diplomat, who has held the position in Libya since September 2022, cited a lack of progress with the country’s key political rivals, saying his efforts were “met with stubborn resistance, unreasonable expectations, and indifference to the interests of the Libyan people.” (CONTINUED - 334 WORDS)
