Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has obtained approvals from Qatari authorities to import 200MW of electricity in the hot summer months of June, July and August according to a 9 May report by local daily al-Rai. The supplies, which will be carried through the GCC interconnection authority’s transmission line from Saudi Arabia, come on top of a 350MW Omani offer, for total planned imports of more than 500MW this summer as the country struggles to avoid blackouts amid surging peak load (see chart and MEES, 3 May).
