BP has walked away from the proposed BirAllah LNG hub development off Mauritania with the concession expiring at the end of April.

The decision “to release BirAllah in Mauritania,” comes as BP adopts a highly selective attitude to future developments as it targets a reduction in oil and gas output by later this decade. BP has been “focusing our engineering efforts… getting really clear which ones we are going to take forward… redeploying engineers to the highest quality ones,” and this has led to the relinquishment of both BirAllah and Yakaar Teranga to the south off Senegal, CEO Murray Auchincloss told his firm’s Q1 earnings call last week.
