Kuwait’s Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) on 19 May signed a contract with the GCC’s Interconnection Authority (GCCIA) to import 500MW of electricity this summer. GCCIA CEO Ahmed al-Ebrahim says the supplies are earmarked for June, but will be extendable into July and August.

The agreement formalizes offers received by Kuwait from members Oman (350MW) and Qatar (200MW) (MEES, 17 May). MEW deputy Haitham al-Ali says the prices offered were close to “production cost.” (CONTINUED - 130 WORDS)
