Saudi Arabia’s 300MW Saad solar PV plant is nearing the start of commercial operations, providing another boost to the liquids displacement program which aims to end the routine use of oil for power generation by 2030.
China’s Jinko Power is the lead developer at Saad, and says that commissioning is due for 4Q 2024. Work has progressed smoothly at the site, and this target might prove conservative. Indeed, an informed source says that energization should occur in less than a month, raising the prospect of Saad contributing electricity to the grid in time for the summer peak-demand season.
