Saddam Haftar, the son of Libyan military commander Khalifa Haftar, took over in early June as the new chief of staff of land forces in his father’s self-proclaimed Libyan Arab Armed Forces (LAAF). His brother, Khaled Haftar, was named chief of staff of the ‘security units’ within the LAAF last year.
