Chinese solar panel manufacturer Hainan Drinda New Energy Technology says that on 13 June it signed a $700mn “Investment Intention Agreement” with the Oman Investment Authority (OIA). The project aims to build a solar PV manufacturing plant in Oman with an annual capacity of 10GW.
The sultanate has sought to localize the production of key components of its renewable energy and green hydrogen sectors. Plans are moving forward for a 100,000 t/y polysilicon plant to produce a key feedstock for solar panels (MEES, 15 March) and late last year OIA signed a MoU with Siemens for an electrolyzer manufacturing facility in Oman (MEES, 15 December 2023).
