Spanish contractor Duro Felguera says it has suspended work on the 1.26GW Djelfa combined cycle power plant in Algeria. The 20 June filing to Spain’s securities market commission (CNMV) blames the halt on “substantial alterations to the project due to causes beyond the control of Duro Felguera,” adding that it is now seeking “a definitive solution for all parties.”
The project was originally awarded back in 2014 at a price tag of $719mn (MEES, 7 March 2014), with civil works completed by end-2016 (MEES, 15 September 2017). Satellite imagery indicates that substantial work has taken place since – the bulk between 2017 and 2019 – but that much remains to be done. (CONTINUED - 380 WORDS)
