Israel added 1.04GW of renewables capacity last year but progress has slowed since the start of conflict with Hamas in Gaza last October. Increased tension with Hezbollah on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon has put the largest under-construction project, 104MW ‘Clean Wind Energy’ in the Golan Heights just 10km from the Lebanon border, on hold (MEES, 15 March).

Israel has since the start of 2024 not yet provided monthly additions to its renewables capacity which stood at 5.9GW as of end-2023. But with the threat from Hamas in the south now seriously degraded, local firm Enlight says it this week reached commercial operations on 16MW of solar PV capacity (and 94MWh storage) at Yesha and Re’im, both on the border with Gaza.
