Flying nearly 2,000km from Israel to Yemen’s Red Sea coast, a squadron of Israeli F-15 and F-35 fighter jets bombed at least ten targets in and around the port of Hodeidah on 20 July. Operation Outstretched Arm, as it was dubbed, killed nine people and injured more than 80. The strike was in response to a 19 July Houthi drone attack on an apartment block in Tel Aviv which killed one and injured nine (MEES, 19 July).
Israel bombed the 150,000 ton (1mn barrel) oil storage terminal at Hodeidah and storage tanks at the 150MW Ras Katnib power plant 18km north of the port. Fire engulfed both sites, and continued to burn four days later in the main port area. Cranes were damaged at the port and loading activities stopped for two days. (CONTINUED - 1497 WORDS)
