Spain’s Repsol, in its first half 2024 report on 24 July, reveals that earlier this year “an agreement was signed with the national company NOC to carry out a preliminary evaluation of oil potential in the Dur Al Qussah area.”

Geological maps of Libya show the Dur Al Quaaah sub-basin as the northeastern extremity of the Murzuq basin, where Repsol is the top producer via the 300,000 b/d Sharara fields of its Akakus JV with Libya’s NOC. A previous Western Geophysical study seen by MEES indicates that Dur Al Qussah has the same Cambro-Ordovician source rock and Tanezzuft overlay as the portion of the central Murzuq that contains the Akakus fields.
