Abu Dhabi state energy firm Adnoc released its 2023 Sustainability Report on 5 July, noting that “We have accelerated our ambition to achieve net zero across our operations to 2045. We will reduce our carbon intensity by 25% and deliver near zero methane emissions in our operations by 2030.”
Upstream greenhouse gas intensity stayed flat at 7.2kg CO₂e/boe for 2023, which Adnoc describes as being in the top tier for the industry. By comparison, Saudi Aramco puts its upstream intensity at 9.6kg CO₂e/boe last year. The key advantage that Adnoc has is that since 2022, all of its onshore activities have received ‘clean electricity’ through the grid from nuclear and solar facilities. Adnoc is working to connect key offshore facilities to the grid through HVDC-connections next year in order to drive emissions down further (MEES, 30 September 2022). (CONTINUED - 133 WORDS)
