China Energy Engineering Corp (CEEC) announced in a filing on the Shanghai Stock Exchange that it is leading a consortium to construct the 2GW Haden solar PV project in Saudi Arabia. The consortium has been awarded a $972mn EPC contract for the project in western Saudi Arabia, 93km northeast of Taif. Haden is being developed by a consortium of PIF, Acwa Power and Saudi Aramco.

CEEC says the construction period will last around 31 months, which aligns with Acwa’s expected start-up date of 1Q 2027. Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) were signed between the PIF, Acwa, Aramco consortium and the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) for Haden and two other solar projects with combined capacity of 5.5GW in June, with all three due online in early 2027 (MEES, 28 June).
