Oman has been saddled with what then oil minister Muhammad al-Rumhy in 2018 called the “nice problem” of having more gas supply than demand (MEES, 7 September 2018). Recent upstream success in gas exploration and development means that for at least the past two years the country has had to throttle back on production for lack of an outlet.
This has forced Oman’s largest hydrocarbon producer state-led Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) to act as a swing gas producer, tamping down its own output in recent years to make space for IOCs. (CONTINUED - 1491 WORDS)
