Saudi petrochemicals firm Sipchem announced on 26 August that it has awarded engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts for the expansion of its Al Waha subsidiary’s propylene and polypropylene complex.

The contracts, worth $169mn, were made to Singapore’s SCG E&C and its regional subsidiary SGC Arabia on 26 August. In a filing with the Tadawul, Sipchem says that the work entails the addition of 72,000 t/y of propylene capacity and 150,000 t/y of polypropylene capacity to Al Waha’s facilities at Jubail. The work is expected to take 28 months, implying end-2026 completion, following which Al Waha will have capacity to produce 537,000 t/y of propylene and 600,000 t/y of polypropylene.
