Saudi Aramco has announced a slight increase for crude oil prices to Asia for September. OSPs to Asia were increased slightly for its flagship Arab Light grade, but it held prices for its heavier grades steady (see chart and MEES, 9 August). The decision came despite the DME Oman and Dubai price structures strengthening somewhat last month, indicating that Aramco has one eye on demand concerns in Asia. Aramco is also potentially seeking to regain market share ahead of the planned easing of production cuts from October. September also typically marks the start of the seasonal reduction in Saudi Arabia’s domestic consumption, which should free up additional volumes for export.
